Freeze Weekly Update 10/17-10/18

Midget

18U UA

There was a chill in the air on Sunday afternoon, but there was a deep Freeze at Skate Frederick where the 18U hosted the Capital City Vipers from PA. We scored early in the first period and the momentum continued until the end of the third. Great positional playing and passing led to the Freeze’s win, 8-1, with Ethan Streets contributing with a hat trick.

16U LA

The 16U team had two home games this past weekend.
First up on Saturday was a visit from the Capital City Vipers out of Harrisburg, PA. The Freeze quickly showed them how hockey is played in Frederick, by jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the first period. The Freeze continued to dominate through the second, and eventually ended the game with a 10-0 win. In a complete team effort, eight different scorers found the back of the net, including a hat trick by Brandon Brower. Gabe Wyant secured the shutout.
On Sunday they hosted their friends from across the river, the Ashburn Xtreme. After a scoreless first period, the Freeze put two on the board in the second period. However, in the third period, Ashburn wasn’t to be denied, and they capitalized on a powerplay opportunity to get within one of the Freeze. Then late in the game, with 50 seconds remaining, Ashburn netted the equalizer, and the game eventually concluded in a 2-2 tie.

Bantam

14U LA

Bantam LA participated in two non-leagues game this weekend. First off, against a team they recently played in the Congressional Cup, Ashburn Xtreme. The team knew the level of speed and competition they would bring. Despite keeping right in check with their opponent on shots on goals, the Freeze came up short, losing 5-1.
Moving right along into Sunday’s game, the boys made the drive over the Bay Bridge to take on the Easton Ice Hawks. It was a fresh start for the boys and they wasted no time dominating shots on goal, offensive zone entry and securing the back of the net. The game involved a great level of teamwork and good sportsmanship. The boys demonstrated the execution of putting those practice skills to great work. While there were many things to celebrate during the game, a special shout out goes to Eric Fitz for his first hat trick of the season and fellow linesman, Brandon Bernard, for earning a playmaker. Freeze wins 10-1. Way to go boys!

14U B

Polar bears may love the ice, but they are also amazing swimmers! This ability positioned the U14 B Freeze team for success when they jumped into their game against the Hagerstown Hammerheads on Saturday. The game was a shut-out win with a playmaker from #6 Christian Lugo and a hat trick from #9 Raymie Caiola.

Pee Wee

12U LA

On Saturday, the team traveled across the bay for a non-league game against the Easton Ice Hawks. The Freeze scored less than 30 seconds into the game to take the early lead with Easton scoring only a couple minutes later to tie it up. Both teams had strong offense and the game ended in a 6-6 tie.

Squirt

10U AA

Sunday brought the Ashburn Xtreme and their high-powered offense to Skate Frederick with a rematch with the AA U10s. Ashburn jumped out to an early lead and things started to look bleak until the Freeze caught fire and answered with some offensive fireworks of their own. Closing the gap to four goals, Frederick fought hard with a never say die attitude. A 13-6 final score does not do justice to the vast improvement the team has continued to show as the season progresses. Win or lose this is a team.
The kids have each other's backs and pick up the slack for one another. We are just getting started.

10U LA

On Sunday, after the excitement of last weekend’s tournament win on the road, it was back to Skate Frederick to host the Ashburn Xtreme 10U LA.
The Freeze had a tough go on the ice as the Xtreme came in strong from the start of the game. The Freeze scored a solid goal in the 3rd period getting us on the board, but in the end we fell short with a loss of 1-8. The team will re-group this week before heading to Harrisburg next Saturday to play the Cap City Vipers.

Mite

8U UA

On Saturday, the Mite UA team traveled to The St. James for an early morning game against STJ Blue. The teams traded goals back and forth but when the buzzer sounded, it was STJ Blue with the 5-4 win. Later that day, the Freeze hosted STJ White at Skate Frederick. The Freeze jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. Five different Freeze players found the back of the net, with hat tricks by Nicholas Chung, Bradley Lapato and Sebastian Northup, for an impressive 12-5 victory.
The team is back in action on Saturday when they travel to The St. James for a rematch against the STJ Blue team and again on Sunday when they host the Bowie Bruins at Skate Frederick.

8U B

Freeze Mites B Team traveled to Piney Orchard to play 2 games against the Jr. Bears. The entire team fought hard together and between the 2 games, every single skater scored a goal! The first game was dominated by the Freeze with first time goaltender Wesley Lapato getting a shutout and hat tricks coming from Abe Camden and Garrett McLachlan! The second game started a little flat and the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Freeze fought back hard and tied it, then traded goals back and forth but ultimately lost 6-5.
