A NEW ERA BEGINS, FREEZE HIRE BLAINE STOUGHTON2010-05-13
The Frederick Freeze is proud to announce the hiring of former NHL 50 goal scorer and All Star Blaine Stoughton as its new head coach. Blaine comes to the Freeze after coaching the University of Cincinnati mens hockey team.
Blaine played from 1973 to 1984 in both the NHL and WHA. Blaine holds the distinction of scoring 50+ goals in both leagues, notching 56 goals for Hartford in 1979-80 and 52 in 1981-82. Blaine was drafted in the 1st round of the NHL draft , 7th overall in 1973 by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Blaine has a long history of involvement in hockey at the highest levels. He leaves a college hockey program to come and coach with the Freeze. In addition, Blaine will be a scout for the Washington Jr Nationals.
This is a special hire for the Freeze and for hockey in this area. Along with Freeze GM and Washington Jr Nationals coach Troy Govig, this gives the Freeze a management and coaching staff that will be nationally known. Blaine and Troy are true professionals! Everyone in the Freeze organization from players to parents to ownership are excited about our future. Blaine's addition to the organization shows that the Freeze is commited to a program that will be recognized on a national level!
