FREEZE ADVANCE TO CAPITAL CLASSIC FINAL

2009-09-09

The Frederick Freeze Junior B team advanced to the Capital Classic final by defeating the Virginia Express 3-2 along with a 6-0 shutout of the Washington Junior Caps.

In the final, the Freeze faced the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins Empire B team which has been a top 10 team nationally in the past. It was an exciting final though the Penguins prevailed 3-2.

The Freeze came back from a 2-0 third period deficit on goals by Dylan Rothenberger and Ben Salzer. The Penguins won with a power play goal with just over 4 minutes left in the game. It was a great game and well played by both teams. Freeze goalie Stefan Theunissen was voted the games 3rd star. With their win in New Jersey along with their performance this weekend, the Freeze Premier Junior B team showed the potential to be a major player on the National Junior B level this season.
